The subject is a compex topical unit. Students will get basic knowledge in the fields of microbiology and immunology, which is an important background for studying epidemiology, hygiene and health education, all parts of public health care, and also midwifery and prevention of nosocomial infection. The course is focused on the basics of medical microbiology: general and special; bacteriology, virology, parasitology, mycology and basic immunology: immune system, immunity, microbiologic and immunologic laboratory methods, clinical immunology.
Subject Knowledge: Student knows basic specialized terminology in the field of microbiology and immunology, he is able to recognize and classify initiators of infections, he knows the effects of antimicrobial substances and the origin of their resistance, he knows the function and parts of the immune system and the basis and forms of immunization, he recognizes clinical symptoms of the changes in the immune system. Professional Skills: Student is able to read and interpret specialized literature in the field of microbiology and immunology applied in midwifery, he is able to sample biologic material for microbiologic and serological examination and transport them to the laboratories, he is able to explain a patient the correct form of using antimicrobial medication with a professional argumentation. Student is able to create a seminar project on a selected topic from the study field.
