Lecture Topics: 1.Balneology as a form of tourism (definition of spa industry, historical development, position of spa industry as a field), principles of balneology, function and importance of balneology 2.Benefits of balneology, impacts of tourism on the destination, spa care and services (spa tourism services - products) 3.Types of care provided, classification of natural resources, use of natural resources 4.Management of spa operations (spa management, organization of operations), marketing specifics of the tourism services sector Seminar Topics: 1.Spa topography (Czech balneology, Balneology in abroad) 2.Types of care provided (publicly funded / co-financed treatment programs, treatment programs, wellness programs 3.Characteristics of Spa service (external environment of the Spa, specification of establishments, specification of specialized units) 4.Spa stay (process of spa stay, specifics of accommodation and catering services)

Learning outcomes
The aim of the subject is to provide students with a theoretical basis for understanding both the spa sector and its position in the economy and legislation, as well as the spa as an organization. To achieve this goal, students need to be acquainted with the historical development and current state of the spa segment. It is necessary to provide basic information about the nature, principles and benefits of balneology. An integral part of this is the view of balneology by offering services, classification and use of natural healing resources and also with basic spa topography. Students will also be familiar with the functioning of the spa as an organization. The spa will be presented not only from the point of view of individual organizational units, but also as a network of relationships between specialized workplaces interconnected by customer-supply chains with the external environment. Last but not least, students will be familiar with the management and marketing of such a network of relationships with regard to the specifications of the service and tourism industry.
Expertise: The student is able to characterize the field of balneology and define his position. Can name spa tourism services and their impacts. Further describe medicinal natural resources and explain their use in relation to the therapeutic focus of the spa. The student is able to identify the spa as an organization, is able to describe its basic structure and recognizes basic services. Professional skills: The student knows the working environment of the spa organization and its specifics. He / she can recognize spa topography and can classify natural healing resources. The student is acquainted with the services in the spa industry and respects the basic principles when creating programs.
