Course content
Lecture topics: 1. Terminology, current state of HW, SW, intranet and internet. E-learning, MEFANET. Health information systems (definition, historical development and trends of further development, main goals). 2. Data standards and data protection in information systems. Electronic Health Records (EHR, EPR). Hospital information systems (HIS, NIS), outpatient and general practitioner information system. 3. E-health - individual components. Information resources for decision-making in clinical practice (Evidence-Based Medicine). MEDLINE / PubMed database. Telemedicine (web-conferencing, 3D transmissions) and its future. 4. Imaging methods - acquisition, algorithms for processing, archiving and sharing of image information. Processing e-outputs from faculty laboratories (for study of movement and for study of chronic diseases).

Learning outcomes
The aim of the course is to acquaint students with the basics of information and communication technologies transferred to the healthcare system, especially in the important application areas of support of clinical and administrative process of providing health care (E-health).
Seminar topics: They build on the topics of lectures, practical application using computers in the PC classroom. Separate topics of exercises are advanced methods of working with Excel (logical, text and data functions, pivot tables, macros). Subject knowledge: Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to orientate themselves in health informatics, including specific areas such as hospital information systems, electronic patient documentation, imaging methods or a relatively new concept of evidence-based medicine. Subject skills: The student is able to process electronic data from faculty laboratories, handles advanced work with selected Excel functions.
