Course content
Lecture Topics: 1. Terminology, current state of HW, SW, intranet and internet. E-learning, MEFANET. 2. Advanced methods of working with Excel (logical, text and data functions, pivot tables, macros). 3. Health information systems (definition, historical development and trends of further development, main goals). 4. Data standards and data protection in information systems. Electronic Health Records (EHR, EPR). 5. Hospital information systems (HIS, NIS), information system of outpatient and general practitioner. 6. E-health as a complex system, individual components. 7. Information sources for decision-making support in clinical practice (Evidence-Based Medicine). 8. MEDLINE / PubMed database. 9. Telemedicine (web-conferencing, 3D transmissions) and its future. 10. Imaging methods - acquisition, algorithms for processing, archiving and sharing of image information. 11. Processing of e-outputs from faculty laboratories (for study of movement and for studies of chronic diseases).

Learning outcomes
The aim of the course is to introduce the basic function of information and communication technology adjusted to the healthcare system, especially in the important application areas of clinical and administrative support processes in providing health care (E-health).
Subject knowledge: Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to orientate themselves in health informatics, including specific areas such as hospital information systems, electronic patient documentation, imaging methods or a relatively new concept of evidence-based medicine. Subject skills: The student is able to process electronic data from faculty laboratories, handles advanced work with selected Excel functions.
