Lecture Topics: 1. week: General principles in pharmacology, medication. Pharmacodynamics, clinical response to the application of medication. 2. week: Pharmacokinetics, the movement of the medication in the body, the factors determining the reaction to medication. Side effects of medication, interaction between medications, indication, contraindication. 3. week: Medication affecting neural system, smooth muscles, pain. 4. week: Medication affecting cardiovascular system, diuretics. 5. week: Autakoids, hormones, hypolipidemics, medication treating obesity. 6. week: Medication affecting digestive and urinary tract, respiration system, haemostatic, antitrombotics. 7. week: Antibiotics, chemotherapeutics, cytostatics. 8. week: Medication used for gynaecological treatment, in pregnancy, during the birth and in the six - week period.

Learning outcomes
|
The subject is theoretical and it consists of two parts. In the first part it provides overall information about medication in clinical expertise, about the mechanism of their influence on the organism. In the second part it provides the information about the medication used in obstetrics and related fields, which are important for the professional performance of a birth assistant. The focus is put on the main effects, side effects and possible unwanted effects of the medication on human organism and on medication indication in relation to gravidity and breastfeeding.
Subject Knowledge: Student understands distribution rules and the ways the medication affects a human organism. He knows the effects of individual types of medication and their interactions. He knows the basic groups of medication for the individual types of organ systems. He knows the specifics types of medication used in gynaecology and obstetrics. Professional Skills: Student is able to observe and identify unwanted effects of the medication; he is able to consult the patients about the application of the medication and about possible side effects. He will follow the rules while applying different types of medication in clinical expertise .
