Course content
Lecture Topics: The First Consultation: Health, health determinants, health aspects, protection and promotion of health, prevention of harm, public health, goals and methods; health programs The Second Consultation: Epidemiology of infectious and chronic diseases; epidemiological measures The Third Consultation: Fundamentals of environmental health; hospital hygiene The Fourth Consultation: The working environment of health facilities, health workers The Fifth Consultation: Health education: aims, methods and forms; work in the community Seminar Topics: The First Consultation: Questionnaire, intervention program. The Second Consultation: Working with a group; work in the community The Third Consultation: Health risk evaluation, work categorization, hazardous work, occupational diseases, preventive medical examinations Self-Study: The principles of a healthy lifestyle; Rational nutrition; Water and health; Air and health; The most common diseases in the Czech Republic.

Learning outcomes
The subject helps the students acquire basic professional knowledge of public health, epidemiology, hygiene and health education including health protection and promotion as well as the prevention of disease risks. It presents the methods and forms of health education for individuals and communities. It introduces health protection issues of healthcare providers while explaning the causes and prevention of nosocomial infections.
Subject Knowledge: Students will acquire the knowledge of the relationship and interaction environment of the human´s body, they will know negative or positive impacts on health and the measures to protect and promote health; they will master the basics of environmental hygiene, food hygiene, they will have the knowledge about the effects of working conditions on workers' health focused on health and preventive measures; students will know how to control the causes and manage the prevention of nosocomial infections; they will have theoretical knowledge of health education, controlling methods and forms to work with individuals and communities. Professional Skills: Students elaborate a questionnaire to determine knowledge, attitudes, health status of patients - clients. They can also elaborate an intervention program aimed at eliminating - reducing health risk factors in primary, secondary and tertiary health education (smoking, healthy eating, physical activity, addiction prevention, participation in preventive examinations, healthy parenting, prevention of sexually transmitted diseases, etc.). Students can describe the causes of nosocomial infections and controlling procedures to prevent them. They know the correct handwashing procedure kept by the medical staff, disinfection and sterilization procedures, the principles of health protection among the medical staff.
