Lecture Topics: 1. week: Introduction to the study. Definitions and features of the discipline. Forms and methods of nursing care.Holistic philosophy in health care, metaparadigm of health care. 2. week: The beginnings of nursing care. Professionalization of Nursing Mission 3. week: Significant personalities of Czech and world nursing 4. week: International Activities and Documents Determining Nursing. WHO European Education Strategy. 5. week: Legislative basis for the performance of the medical profession (roles, functions, competencies) 6. week: The concept of nursing. Regulation, self-regulation of the profession. Image of a nurse 7. week: The importance of professional organizations, goals, activity, history and present, development. WHO, IC, TIME, ICN, ACENDIO, WENR, etc. 8. week: Conceptual Models of Nursing: Virginia Henderson, Dorothea Orem, M. Gordon 9. week: Conceptual models of nursing: Hildegard E. Peplau, Callista Roy, Florence Nightingal 10. week: Classification systems in nursing 11. week: Research in Nursing.

Learning outcomes
|
The subject is theoretical and creates the basis for the study field of health care. It defines nursing as a modern discipline with its own philosophy, a value system, the subject of research, theoretical models, standard terminology, classification systems and methodology. The subject introduces historical development of health care in the Czech republic and the world, the multicultural dimension of health care considering individual needs of a human, family and community, with the main tasks and function of nursing in the society and with current trends, with national and international professional organizations and their activities, with the direction of the field and the aim in increasing the efficiency of medical systems and the quality of care after the health of the population. The aim is to give the students the understanding of nursing as a science, understand its development, history, current conception of Czech nursing, education, nursing training and legislative, understanding of the relations between health - disease - nursing - environment.
Subject Knowledge: Students are able to: name the metaparadigms of health care and describe relations between health-disease- health care and environment, define health care after a human from the view of holistic philosophy, name circumstances of creation and history of nursing process, define modern health care system and health care conception in the Czech Republic, explain the role of a nurse, regulation system of nursing profession and registration of nurses, describe research specifics in health care. Professional Skills: Students are able to: study the information and resources about the activities of international and national health care professional organizations using the findings to increase theoretical knowledge from the field, search for the documents of European strategy of WHO for education of nurses and midwives and use them to expand the knowledge of modern health care conception in the Czech Republic and Europe based on the knowledge of legislative research information about general nurses and their employment in European region.

Assessment methods and criteria

Credit requirement is to pass a written seminar project. The students will cover one topic from the field of health care based on the instruction of the lector. Students will prove their ability to work individually with research information and use theoretical knowledge. The subject is finished with an oral exam.
