Course content
Lecture topics: (2 hours/week) 1. Definition and characteristics of the scientific field of nursing. 2. Philosophy in nursing. 3. Holistic philosophy of nursing. 4. Metaparadigm of nursing. 5. Historical development of nursing in the world. 6. Professionalization of the nursing mission. 7. Legislative basis for the performance of the medical profession. 8. Role, functions, competences of the pediatric nurse. Regulation, self-regulation of the profession. 9. National and international professional organizations. 10. Conceptual models and theories of nursing. 11. Humanistic models of nursing. 12. Models of interpersonal relationships in nursing. Classification systems in nursing.

Learning outcomes
The subject is designed as theoretical. It systematically defines nursing as a scientific discipline with its own philosophy, value system, object of investigation, standard terminology, classification systems and methodology. It introduces the historical development of nursing in the Czech Republic and in the world, the multicultural dimension of nursing care for the individual needs of the child, family and community, the main tasks and functions of nursing in society and the current trends of progressive development, which are related to increasing the efficiency of health care and ensuring its quality.
Expertise: Student demonstrates a broad knowledge of nursing as a scientific field based on a holistic philosophy. Student is able to describe the relationships between health - illness - nursing and the environment. Student demonstrates knowledge in the concept of modern nursing and the concept of nursing in the Czech Republic, its development and legislative foundations. Professional skills: Student can use basic nursing models and classification systems in the environment of Czech nursing practice. Student is able to practically use classification systems in Czech nursing practice. General qualifications: Student is able to practically use individual nursing procedures when working with a child patient in a medical facility.
