Course content
Lecture Topics: 1st consultation: Development of sociology as an independent science, basic paradigms of sociological thinking, norms and deviant behavior, stratification of society role theory, everydayness and social interaction, basic definition of sociology of medicine, interpretation of disease in sociological context, Talcott Parsons. Self-study: 1. The process of socialization, social control 2. Issues of social groups, typology, importance of primary groups, collective behavior 3. Everydayness and Social Interaction 4. Process of sociological research, basic methods of data collection in sociological research, construction, research tool, interpretation of conclusions.

Learning outcomes
The subject provides basic knowledge of sociology. It introduces the development of sociology as a scientific discipline, with the basic paradigms of sociological thinking and with the leaders of the history of this science. Attention is paid to the process of socialization, problems of social control, norms, deviations, social stratification, tender and sexuality. The course also deals with the stages of life and family cycle focusing on family life and introduces basic sociological theories. The focus of the course is on the sociology of medicine and on the basic models of relationships between health professionals and patients. The course also provides basic knowledge of the process and methods of sociological research.
Expertise: The student is acquainted with the fact what preceded the origin of sociology, is able to characterize basic sociological trends and can define the importance of the process of socialization. The student has an overview and can characterize basic sociological theories (such as social group theory, social stratification, deviant behavior, role theory), thereby better understanding selected aspects of human behavior in their future profession. The student understands the importance of sociology of medicine, including the main focus of this subdiscipline (perception of the disease, the impact of the disease on the life of the individual and the family, models of relationships in medicine). The student is able to describe all phases of sociological research and is acquainted with basic methods of collecting sociological data, which he / she can characterize. Professional skills: The student is able to include selected sociological theories in the main sociological directions. The student is able to assign the relationships of health professionals and patients to individual theoretical models based on the real state, including the practical evaluation of the positive and negative consequences of applying these models in a particular situation. Students are able to prepare their own simple research including selection of a suitable method of data collection and construction of a simple research tool.
