Course content
|
Seminar Topics: 1. week: Introduction: Evidence-Based Practice (EBP), nursing based on evidence (EBN), its historical overview, definition, situation in the Czech Republic and in the world. 2. week: Critical evaluation and searching for clinical problems. Formulation of clinical question. The types of clinical questions. 3. week: Searching for the best evidence based on the type of the question. 4. week: Working with search engines (AND, OR, NOT), terminology (ISSN, ISBN, English terms for search criteria), open-access principle. 5. week: Searching in Czech databases, in e-catalogues of the UJEP library and MEDVIK libraries (NLK, The Hospital's Library). 6. week: Searching in foreign databases. 7. week: Evaluation of evidence, hierarchisation, suggesting for the training.

Learning outcomes
|
Students will get basic knowledge covering the issues of practice based on evidence applied in health care. The aim of the subject is to teach students how to define a clinical question and using research in available databases search for and analyse the evidence inabling suggestion of best possible evidence for clinical training .
Subject Knowledge: Students are able to describe the phases of the process of nursing based on evidence. Students are able to formulate clinical question using PICOT format. Students know the terminology related to publishing, they know available bibliographical databases and databases containing aggregated medical data. Professional Skills: Students will be able to search and obtain publicly available data regarding the project based on a clinical question in selected issues. Students will be able to evaluate the evidence and suggest the best procedures for clinical training.
