The course is designed as a theoretical and practical unit. It is the part of more complex subject area covering clinical nursing. The course introduces clinical conditions and diseases appeared in surgery with the focus on nursing care of patient's needs being changed in connection with some surgical disease. The course provides characteristics of clinical conditions, etiology, symptoms, diagnosis and treatment in abdominal, thoracic and vascular surgery, as well as in cardiac surgery, urology, neurosurgery, orthopedics and traumatology, plastic surgery and burning treatment. The course includes the basics of anesthesiology, gerontosurgery and pediatric surgery.
Professional Knowledge: Students have some basic knowledge in the field of surgery; they know how to evaluate a patient?s current clinical status. Students can identify basic nursing diagnoses resulting from the bio-psycho-social needs of the patients; they can make a plan and/or a schedule covering appropriate nursing interventions regarding care goals. Students have enough skill to implement specific nursing activities; they can set standard nursing diagnoses and interventions; they can plan the course of individual nursing care under particular clinical conditions. They will train how to provide some education focused on a patient /a family. Professional Skills: Students can prepare a patient for some surgical examination, or a surgical procedure. They can identify postoperative complications and they know how to deal with complications. They can provide comprehensive nursing care of patients with a selected surgical disease. They know the specifics of working load and responsibilities within particular departments and units. |
