Course content
Lecture Topics: 1. week: Introduction, content of general and special surgery, the fields of surgery. Organization and equipment of operation rooms 2. week: Examination methods in surgery. The basics of anaesthetics and analgetics. 3. week: Basic operation techniques. Types of wounds. 4. week: Types of surgical treatment. 5. week: Injuries, burns 6. week: Pre-operational, peri-operational and post-operational care, post-operational complications. 7. week: The disorders of vital functions, acidobasic balances 8. week: Shock states 9. week: Surgery of head and neck, chest and lactic gland. Seminar Topics: 1. week: The parts and equipment of surgery. Operation rooms. Content of work of NLZP surgical care. Preparation of a patient for a surgical examination 2. week: The specifics of health care in children's and senior's surgery. 3. week: The assistance VS during anaesthetics. The specifics of work at intensive post-operational care department. 4. week: Care after a patient with complications after anaesthetics. 5. week: Care after a patient after small surgical performance. 6. week: Care after a patient in pre-operational, peri-operational and post-operational period. 7. week: Care after an unconscious patient. 8. week: Care after a patient with burns. 9. week: Care after a patient after an operation of the thyroid. Care after a patient after breast operation.

Learning outcomes
The subject is theoretically-practical. It is a part of complex set of subjects in clinical health care. It introduces the clinical states and diseases in surgical fields from the view of health care and patients' needs changing in relation to surgical disorder. It characterizes clinical states, their aetiology, symptoms, diagnostics and treatment in abdominal, pectoral and vascular surgery, cardiosurgery, urology, neurosurgery, orthopaedics and traumatology, plastic surgery and during burns. The part of the subject is the basic of anaesthetics, gerontosurgery and children's surgery.
Subject Knowledge: Student knows the issues in the field of surgery, he knows the types of anaesthetics, he is able to define the rules of diagnostics and treatment of selected surgical diseases. He knows the symptoms and treatment of unconsciousness and burns, He knows the specifics of preparation for operations on the head, neck, chest and lacteal gland. Professional Skills: Student practically prepares the patient for a surgical examination, operational performance. He is able to identify post-operational complication and he knows their solution. He is able to provide complex health care to the patients with certain surgical disorders. He knows professional specifics in some fields of surgery.

Credit requirement is a minimum of 85% class attendance, an active approach and interest in the field, writing an acceptable seminar project: a case study from the field for each semester of study based on the instruction of the supervisor.
