Course content
Seminar Topics: The First Consultation: Integrated Rescue System, crisis management, disaster medicine, legislation. Organization of pre-hospital care. General principles and procedures for providing first aid. Resuscitation algorithm for the adults and children. Head injuries. Unconsciousness. The injuries of spine, joints and bones. The Second Consultation: Abdominal and chest injuries. Bleeding. Shock. The effects of heat and cold on the human body. First aid for sudden internal states. Crass syndrom. Blast syndrom. Drowning. Suffocation. Anaphylactic shock. Self-Study: Self-study will cover the part of the subject content which is listed in the curriculum syllabus. Self-study is guided by the teacher. The list of additional professional literature is very important. The feedback is in the form of case studies and seminar papers, where the teacher directly tests how students understand the issue and how they are ready for the further study. The contacts and the records of interim study results are presented in university information system. The records serve as the proof of an active self-study process. Self-study realisation is a prerequisite for granting a credit.

Learning outcomes
The subject is designed as a theoretically-practical and it is a part of the subject group based on clinical training. Students will acquire the knowledge, skills and principles of general and pre-medical first aid in acute and health-threatening conditions which occur as a result of injury or a sudden worsening of the disease. Students will know clinical conditions which directly threaten human life, including specific rescue procedures. The subject includes the knowledge of legal and organizational problems of providing first aid, the organization of disaster medicine, urgent care and crisis management.
Subject Knowledge: Students can describe the principles of first aid and pre-hospital emergency care describe the interaction and roles of the various components of the integrated rescue system list and describe the various life-threatening conditions and emergencies define the degree and extent of the body damage caused by the effect of heat, cold and electric shock list and define quantitative and qualitative changes in consciousness, breathing and blood circulation, depending on the underlying cause Professional skills: Students can recognize the signs that indicate serious health disorders perform CPR according to the latest best Trainings apply bandaging technique for wound treatment and stop bleeding apply immobilization techniques for joints and bones injuries place a body in the desired position and prepare it for transporting, recognize the symptoms of the incoming shock and perform the anti-shock actions

Credit requirement will be 90% seminar participation and 80% success rate in the written test. The test will consist of 10 questions covering the first aid field and there will be 5 model situations where students demonstrate the procedure of first aid providing.
