Seminar Topics: 1. week: Integrated rescue system, crisis management, catastrophic medicine, legislative basis. 2. week: Organisation of pre-hospitalization and non-suspensive care. General rules and procedures of providing first aid, the system of non-suspensive resuscitation of an adult and a child. 3. week: Head injuries. Unconsciousness. 4. week: The injuries of spine, joints and bones. 5. week: The injuries of chest and belly. Bleeding. Shock. 6. week: The effects of warmth and cold on human organism. Acid burning. Injuries caused by electric current. 7. week: First aid during sudden internal states. 8. week: Bandaging technique, wound treatment, bleeding stopping. 9. week: Immobilization techniques. Positions of an injured person. Transporting. 10. week: Crush syndrome. Blast syndrome. Poisonings. 11. week: Drowning. Suffocation. Anaphylactic shock. Injuries caused by an animal, insect.

Learning outcomes
|
The subject is theoretically - practical and it is a part of a subject group which is based on clinical training. Students will get the knowledge, skills and rules for providing laic and pre-medical first aid for acute and health threatening states, which were caused by an accident or a sudden complication during the illness. Students are introduced to clinical states, which are immediately life-threatening to a human, including specific procedures, which lead to saving the life. The part of the subject introduces the facts considering legal and organizational issues of providing first aid, about organization of the catastrophe medicine, non-postponable care and crisis management.
Subject Knowledge: Student is able to describe the rules of providing first aid and non-suspensive pre-hospitalization care describe the cooperation and tasks of individual units of the integrated rescue system name and describe individual life-threatening states and sudden accidents define the level and extent of damage in the organism caused by the effects of warmth, cold and electric current name and define quantitative and qualitative changes of consciousness, breathing and blood circulation in relation to the cause Professional Skills: Student is able to identify symptoms alarming about a serious health disorder perform cardiopulmonary resuscitation according to the latest recommended procedures apply bandaging techniques to treat wounds and stopping bleeding apply immobilization techniques during joint and bone injuries put the injured person into stabilized position and prepare him for transport, identify symptoms of upcoming shock and then perform anti-shock precautions

Assessment methods and criteria

Credit requirement is 80% seminar attendance and reaching 80% of possible points in the written test. The test consists of 5 model situations and the task for the student is to describe the approach. The subject is finished with the exam controlling theoretical knowledge of the student and also practical skills relate to first aid. It will include practical demonstration of offereing first aid in a situation and its theoretical explanation.
