Course content |
Lecture topics: (2 hours/week) 1. Examination methods in ophthalmology, screening of congenital eye defects. 2. Inflammatory diseases of the eye 3. Refractive errors of the eye, astigmatism and diseases of the oculomotor system. Nursing process and nursing diagnoses in ophthalmology. 4. Special features in the treatment of patients in the ophthalmic department. 5. Ocular changes in systemic diseases. Injuries to the eye. 6. Cataract and glaucoma. Low vision and blindness.

Learning outcomes |
This course focuses on the specifics of disorders, defects and diseases in ophthalmology in children of all ages. It introduces students to the specifics of assessing the needs of children with this group of problems so that they are able to provide quality nursing care in a multidisciplinary team. It places particular emphasis on preventive eye care nursing activities.
Expertise: The student is familiar with clinical conditions and the differences in multidisciplinary care of the sick and visually impaired in secondary and tertiary health care. Professional Skills: The student can develop a plan of care for pediatric patients with eye disease. General competencies: The student is able to apply the knowledge and skills acquired in the provision of nursing care for individual eye diseases in clinical practice. |
