Course content
|
Lecture topics: (4 hours/week) 1. Community as client, community care, community nursing. Development of community services. 2. Roles and competencies of children's nurses in community care. Activities of the children's nurse in the prevention of health impairment. Specific working conditions of children's nurses in community care. 3. Primary prevention. Preventive examinations of the child. Dispensarization. 4. Specifics of community care for woman, family. 5. Specifics of community care for clients with disabilities. Seminar topics: (4 hours/week). 1. The concept of health in community nursing. The role of primary, secondary and tertiary prevention in community care. 2. Nursing process in community care - delivery of community care through nursing process, stages, nursing documentation. 3. Maintenance of individual documentation in the outpatient clinic. 4. Specifics of care for children in facilities providing rehabilitation care. 5. Specifics of care for children in residential and social service facilities.

Learning outcomes
|
The course is designed as a theoretical and practical unit. It provides information about health services and institutions in community and home care, explains primary health care in the general practitioner's office for children and adolescents. It focuses on the health of children, families and community groups. Students are explained the meaning of "community", its main social functions in meeting needs and its hierarchy: individual-family-municipality-city-county-state-nation-world. They will realize the necessity of a healthy social and natural environment for the life of children and their families. They will learn how to care for paediatric patients in their own social environment. It also introduces students to the specifics of care in facilities providing inpatient care in a rehabilitation or spa setting for children receiving treatment for chronically ill or debilitated children, in day and weekly residential care in social service facilities that focus on comprehensive and differentiated care, and in children's groups providing educational care.
Expertise: The student is introduced to the provision of nursing care to healthy and ill pediatric clients in their own social environment, the provision of care to clients and families, and to groups of a particular community, and the student is introduced to the implementation of nursing care through the nursing process in community and home care. The student will be familiar with methods and practices of health maintenance and promotion in primary prevention. Professional Skills: The student will understand the meaning of the term "community", its main social functions in meeting the needs of individuals, people and its hierarchy. The student will become aware of the necessity of a healthy social and natural environment in the community for the life of individuals and their families. They will learn how to treat clients in their own social environment. The student will be able to provide care to children in residential and social service settings.
