Lecture Topics: 1. week: General oncology. Epidemiology of tumours. Genetically- conditioned malignities. 2. week: Classification of tumours, basic characteristics of tumours. 3. week: Principles of treatment in oncology, prevention of oncological diseases. 4. week: Definition of palliative care, the rules of palliative care. 5. week: Palliative treatment of the most common body symptoms. Seminar Topics: 1. week: Nursing specifics when dealing with oncological patients. 2. week: Health care for a patient with an oncological pain. 3. week: The importance of primary and secondary prevention, the role of a nurse in prevention of oncological diseases. 4. week: Palliative care specifics. 5. week: Hospice movement.

Learning outcomes
|
The subject is theoretically-practical. It informs about the importance of primary and secondary oncologic prevention. It introduces the differences and the character of facilities for care and treatment for oncological patients. It provides information about individual clinical states from the point of health care and patients' needs which are changing because of oncological diseases drastically influencing patient's quality of life and their family. The topic of palliative care is a part of a complex set of subjects covering clinical health care. It's a practical unit and it follows health care issues among the patients with oncological diseases.
Subject Knowledge: Student knows the differences and characteristics of facilities for care and treatment of oncological patients and has information about individual clinical states, which are affecting the quality of life of oncological patient and his family. Professional Skills: Student is able to provide health care to the patients with oncological diseases; he is able to provide care to a patient with an oncological pain. Student understands the basics of palliative medicine and he is able to explain the issues of hospice movement and he is able to care after a patient in a terminal stage, including the support to the family.
