The course is designed as a theoretical and practical unit. It informs students about the completely different biological behaviour of tumours in childhood and about the specifics of childhood cancer. It also introduces the basic treatment in paediatric oncology, which is chemotherapy with all its side effects. It emphasizes quality supportive care, including adequate nutritional support. Provides information on the needs of pediatric patients and their families altered by cancer and directs them to effective nursing interventions.
Expertise: The student knows - The student knows the differences and characteristics of departments for the care and treatment of children with cancer and has information about individual clinical conditions that significantly affect the quality of life of a child with cancer and the family. Professional Skills: The student can - Provide nursing care to pediatric patients with cancer, - Provide care for the child with cancer pain, - care for the pediatric patient in the terminal stage, including support for the family. General competencies: The student is able to communicate own professional opinions clearly and persuasively to professionals and the general public.
