Course content
Lecture topics: (2 hours/week) 1. Disease and its causes. Death and post-mortem changes. 2. Regressive changes. 3. Circulatory failure. 4. Local circulatory disorders. 5. General oncopathology. Special oncopathology. 6. Pathology of the respiratory system. 7. Pathology of the central nervous system. Seminar topics: (2 hours/week) 1. Pathology, its importance and position in medicine. 2. Biopsy and cytological examination, the role of the nurse. Myocardial infarction. 3. CNS circulatory disorders. 4. Lung tumours, breast tumours. 5. Diabetes mellitus. 6. Sepsis, shock states, DIC. Pathology of the excretory system. 7. Causae mortis in surgery. Causae mortis in internal medicine.

Learning outcomes
The course is designed as a theoretical-practical. It provides students with general knowledge of pathological processes occurring in individual tissues, organs, organ systems and the organism. It covers the field of pathological anatomy and pathological physiology. The student will acquire basic knowledge of disease states and learn to understand disease in relation to the human organism.
Expertise: The student masters basic medical terminology, can define the pathophysiology of individual diseases. Professional skills: The student understands the terminology and basic pathophysiological mechanisms within their field of study. The student understands the complex position of pathology within the therapeutic and preventive process. General Competencies: The student is able to apply theoretical knowledge and skills in natural settings and is able to communicate with the client and members of the health care team.
