Course content
Seminar Topics The First Consultation: Admittion, transporting and release of a sick person, a ward, ward rounds, the kinds of assistance during the rounds, dealing with medical documentation. Hygienic care (morning and evening toilet, full bath, hair washing in a bed, bathing a child), handling the sick (from the bed to the bathroom, in a bed), mobilization, the issue of pressure ulcers. The care of a dead body. Nutrition and eating prosesses of the sick. Emptying urine and faeces. The Second Consultation: Physiological functions, therapeutic and investigative positions. Drug application. Injection application. The Third Consultation: The collection of biological material. The introduction and management of peripheral venous cannula, the care of central venous catheters and ports. Infusion, parenteral nutrition, transfusions. The Fourth Consultation: Wound care and ostomy, bandage techniques. Minor surgery, dressings table, the sterile table. Puncture, endoscopy. Self-Study: The organization of nursing, nursing unit and its components, the bed and its treatment, linens, amenities, signaling, care about the environment of the patient / client. Disinfection and sterilization (care of the equipment, surfaces), barrier nursing care, nosocomial infections and their prevention.

Learning outcomes
The course is designed as a theoretically-practical. The course content creates the core of professional nursing skills and belongs to the complex set of professional subjects. Students will have theoretical knowledge to perform the dependent and independent nursing activities and they will be able to perform in accordance with valid legislation regulating nursing activities. Individual nursing procedures and techniques are taught in accordance with the principles of the nursing process and the holistic conception of nursing care.
Subject Knowledge: Student has theoretical knowledge to perform practical implementation of nursing interventions in accordance with the competencies of nurses under the applicable legislation. Student can describe nursing practice in various areas, its meaning, preparation and care of a patient before, during performances / activities / procedures and after performances/ activities/ procedures. Students can describe the negative effects of improper nursing procedures performed on a human health. Professional Skills: Student practically demonstrates the particular nursing procedures. Student demonstrates manual dexterity in the implementation of practical interventions and techniques in the field of dependent, independent and synergistic activities of nurses regarding the individual needs of a patient's safety.
