Course content
Lecture Topics: The First Consultation: The category of sick human needs in nursing: the theory of patient's needs with relationship to motivation: classification of needs; the hierarchy of needs. Factors modifying the satisfaction of the patient's needs; the specific assessment of psycho-social, cultural and spiritual patient needs. The Second Consultation: The specifics of evaluation of patients´physiological needs: the methods of data collection, the application of various scales, the evaluation and measuring tools in nursing. Self-concept and self-esteem in the nursing process, the security needs and safety in the nursing process. The Third Consultation: Nursing process in respiratory care. Nursing process in the care of nutrition and hydration. Seminar Topics: The First Consultation: Case study: creation of the nursing process for the patients using the categorization of human needs and the evaluation of the gained patient´s anamnestic data. The specifics for psycho-social evaluation, patient´s cultural and spiritual needs. The Second Consultation: The possibilities of rating scales application in nursing history and the methods of evaluation. Developing a nursing process for the patients with the impaired need of certainty, self-concept and self-esteem: case study. The Third Consultation: Developing the nursing process for the patients with respiratory disorders: case study. Developing the nursing process for the patients with impaired nutrition and hydration needs: case study. Self-Study: Self-study will cover the part of the subject content which is listed in the curriculum syllabus. Self-study is guided by the teacher. The list of additional professional literature is very important. The feedback is in the form of case studies and seminar papers, where the teacher directly tests how students understand the issue and how they are ready for the further study. The contacts and the records of interim study results are presented in university information system. The records serve as the proof of an active self-study process. Self- study realisation is a prerequisite for granting a credit.

Learning outcomes
The course is an essential part of the nursing theory. It enables students to understand the main task of professional nursing activities, which is to ensure the satisfaction of everyday needs of a patient / client, family and community. It introduces the classification of human needs according to different disciplines and authors and it is focused on the reactions and expressions of unmet needs of healthy people, the sick, of the people with special needs and the dying ones. It is also focused on the realization of the nursing process and its phases, it teaches P-E-S application and NANDA diagnosis and documentation processing.The subject is finished with an oral exam.
Subject Knowledge: Students are able enumerate and define the various phases of the nursing process, enumerate and describe the hierarchy of needs according to Maslow, enumerate the factors that influence man´s satisfaction / dissatisfaction of bio-psycho-social needs, can enumerate and describe the possibilities of measurement application and evaluation scales for the objectification of unmet human needs, define and describe the importance of individual needs regarding the health and disease. Professional Skills: Students are able apply the methods of a nursing process in the form of specific patients' case reports, use evaluation and measuring scales for patients' evaluation within nursing history and evaluation of nursing interventions, evaluate patient' needs to compile the history of a nursing care plan, evaluate the seriousness of need distruption and the possibilities of influencing a nursing intervention; deal with the documentation of the nursing process.

Credit requirements will in seminars and the elaboration of an acceptable seminar project. The seminar project is devoted to elaboration of a nursing process for the individual patients regarding their needs, the identification of problems and their solutions. In the project students demonstrate theoretical knowledge of the nursing process and its application considering the hierarchy of needs arising in the nursing process.
