Course content
Lecture topics: (4 hours/week) 1. Body fluids. Acid-base balance. 2. Disorders of acid-base balance - respiratory alkalosis and acidosis, metabolic alkalosis and acidosis. 3. Rehydration therapy. 4. Primary immunodeficiency. Secondary immunodeficiency. 5. Allergic diseases. Inherited metabolic disorders. (4 hours/week). 1. Nursing process in the child during investigation of acid-base balance. 2. Nursing process in the child with respiratory alkalosis and acidosis, metabolic alkalosis and acidosis. 3. Nursing process in a child with rehydration therapy. 4. Nursing process in a child with impaired cellular immunity. 5. Nursing process in a child with drug allergy. Nursing process in a child with a metabolic disorder.

Learning outcomes
The course is designed as a theoretical and practical unit that forms the basis for the provision of quality nursing care in paediatrics. It provides students with a comprehensive view of the growth and development of the healthy and sick child with respect to the therapeutic and preventive care provided. The student will be able to identify the specific needs of the individual child as related to pathologies, developmental anomalies, and diseases of childhood. The student will be familiar with standard diagnostic procedures and tests for each clinical condition. The student will be able to recognize basic pathologies from the beginning of childhood so as to be able to plan and implement effective nursing care.
Expertise: The student is able to distinguish and list the individual developmental periods of the child's year, is able to justify the anatomical and physiological peculiarities of the child's organism, is able to describe in more detail the difference in the diet of children in the individual developmental stages, is able to evaluate the child's condition using various assessment scales appropriate for the child in relation to their age, is able to list the principles and complications associated with individual procedures and interventions that they apply in practice. Professional Skills: The student is able to assess the overall condition of the child in relation to their age, to select and work with appropriate scaling techniques and methodology for the child in relation to their age, to carry out the nursing process in its individual stages in relation to the child's age stage, clinical condition and individual peculiarities, to select the correct procedure. General competences: The student is able to apply theoretical knowledge and skills in natural conditions, is able to communicate with the client. The student will be able to communicate with the client and members of the health care team.
