Course content
Lecture Topics: 1. week: Basic terminology used in relation to multicultural issues 2. week: Legislative about the position of the minorities in the Czech Republic 3. week: Xenophobia, racisms. Attitudes of the majority towards the minorities in the Czech Republic 3. week: The systems of medical and health care for the foreigners in the Czech Republic 5. week: Ethical aspects of providing health care respecting the other culture 6. week: The thheory of transcultural health care /nursing 7. week: Research methods in transcultural health care /nursing Seminar Topics: 1. week: Nursing models of transcultural care, cultural qualification of a medical staff 2. week: The issues of communication in transcultural environment 3. week: Nursing process in the context of transcultural health care 4. week: National, ethnical and cultural minorities in the Czech Republic 5. week: The specifics of educational activities of a nurse for the patients from different culture, ethnics 6. week: Spirituality, religion and spiritual needs of the patients of different culture, ethnics 7. week: Leininger's model application

Learning outcomes
The subject introduces the issues of human migration and its consequences for the migrants and the major population. It introduces the phenomena the migrant deal with: a cultural shock, an integration block, language barriers, and lower chances of getting a job, disadvantageous economic situation of the families and the feeling of threat because of racist and xenophobic processes. This situation is being taught as a complex and in relation to health and health risk for the majority of population. The subject also covers the issues of gypsy population. The subject introduces the terms: spirituality, religion and spiritual needs of the patients of different culture.
Subject knowledge: student knows basic terminology from the area of multiculturalism he knows legal codes related to foreigners and minorities living in the Czech Republic he understands the issues of integration of foreigners and ethnic minorities in the Czech Republic He knows the specific behaviour, experience and the presentation of minorities, foreigners Professional Skills: Student will get practical communication skills for dealing with foreigners and the members of minority groups of the population Student is able to explain Leininger's theory of transcultural health care He is able to adjust a nursing process to the context of transcultural nursing He will get specific skills relevant to education of minorities, foreigners, he knows and he is able to provide some basic nursing consulting for the minorities and foreigners.
