Lecture Topics: 1. week: Relation of philosophy and ethics in nursing (definition of the terms "philosophy" and "ethics", basic philosophical categories) 2. week: Ethics as a science of morality. 3. week: The sources of nursing ethics. 4. week: Human rights protection and protection of dignity. 5. week: Ethical principles of care. 6. week: Dying and death ethics. 7. week: Ethical problems of the beginning of life. 8. week: Ethical aspects of care after a sick child. 9. week: Ethics of research in medicine and nursing Seminar Topics: 1. week: Definition of ethics in nursing. 2. week: Current ethical principles. 3. week: Hippocrates's tradition, Jewish-Christian tradition, modern philosophical schools. 4. week: The Treaty on human rights and biomedicine. 5. week: Ethical codes and conditions of their acceptance. The rights of the patients and their role in humanization of medicine. 6. week: Telling the truth at the hospital bed. Advising for the bereaved. 7. week: The issues of assisted reproduction, the issues of interruption 8. week: Children's rights 9. week: Ethical questions of organ transplant, reproduction and therapeutic cloning.

Learning outcomes
|
The subject is theoretical. The aim is to create the basis for the ability to polemize and contemplate the ambiguousness of the ethical phenomena in the meaning of "what is" and "what should be".
Subject Knowledge: Students know basic philosophical and ethical concepts regarding the impulses which affect and help with creating professional ethics of a health care provider. Professional skills: Student is able to explain the rules of present ethical codes used in health care, which are explained in details in a following discussion and individual work of the students focused on selected ethical problems in health care.
