Learning outcomes
|
The subject is designed as theoretical and practical. It introduces students to the basics of biophysics, biochemistry and hematology, all used in diagnostics. Students will get basic information about the physical differences of individual examination methods and their biological effects. An important part of the subject is also information about the methods and techniques of taking biological material for biochemical and hematological examination, its marking, storage and sending to laboratories for processing. The subject also familiarizes students with laboratory methods used in transfusion medicine, with the production of transfusion preparations and blood derivatives and with indications for their application, with post-transfusion complications.
Expertise: Student will acquire basic ideas about the chemical composition of living matter and the course of basic processes in the organism and about the basic nature of the emergence of some diseases. Student knows the basic hematological values, knows the physiology of blood. Professional skills: The acquired theoretical knowledge is appropriately used in the principles of proper nutrition, in the application of a type of medicine, and students can use the acquired knowledge in explaining the principle of treatment to patients. The student can identify pathologies in basic hematological values, knows and recognizes clinical symptoms of anemia, impaired blood coagulation, etc. General qualifications: Student is able to interpret blood tests and liver tests and identify simpler pathological changes, advise on nutritional issues, explain biochemical processes and their disturbances to patients.
