Course content
Lecture topics: 1. Basic terminology: Survey and research, basic and applied research, qualitative and quantitative trial and survey. 2. Types of clinical trials and studies, ethical aspects - informed approval. 3. Introduction to statistical surveys: Population and sample, identifiers and statistical concepts. 4. Questionnaires: types of variables, pilot survey. 5. Elementary data description: The issue of frequency including multiple responses, modus, Pivot table. 6. Quantile and moment characteristics: Median, mean, standard deviation, box-plot. 7. Time series and its characteristics. 8. Examples of use MS-Office Excel (modus, median, mean, standard deviation, frequency, Pivot table). 9. Research carried out at FHS - excursion to the laboratory. 10. Research carried out at FHS - excursion to the laboratory.

Learning outcomes
The subject covers the issues of scientific work from problem definition, the choice of adequate method and the creation of a questionnaire to selected options of statistic description of the information obtained. The aim of the subject is mainly to provide students with practical guidance on how to proceed while writing the bachelor's thesis, including the submission of information about the possibility to participate in research carried out at the faculty.
Subject Knowledge: Students know the principles of scientific work in all phases, ie from planning through implementation, to publishing the results; they also know the ethical standards. Subject Skills: Students know to obtain the data and by using elementary statistical methods they can process the data.

The basic assumption is to fulfill the attendance (min. 80% participation in classes). Another assumption is active work (assignment control by means of e-learning environment Moodle).
