Course content
Lecture Topics: 1. Basics of microbiology. 2. Basics of epidemiology. 3. Basics of hygiene. 4. Basics of immunology, active and passive immunization. 5. Transmissible infections and their prevention. 6. Hygienic requirements for organising the facilities operation, technical equipment and service at healthcare facilities. 7. Disinfection and sterilization; disinfestation. 8. Hygienic requirements for construction, technical equipment and operation of medical facilities, rehabilitation workplace.

Learning outcomes
The subject provides students with basic knowledge covering the issues of microbiology, epidemiology and hygiene, about the relationship between physical, chemical and biological factors of the environment and the human body including population and health effects. It introduces the principles of disease prevention, health protection and promotion. General hygiene and epidemiology application at health care facilities including the requirements for their organisation and service, the prevention of transmissible infections.
Subject Knowledge: Students master the basic terminology in the field of microbiology, immunology, epidemiology and hygiene, identify function and the components of the immune system, master the essence and forms of immunization, know ethology, epidemiology and prevention of transmissible infections, hygienic requirements for construction and service of healthcare facilities with focus on a rehabilitation workplace, and principles of disinfection and sterilization, personal hygiene of medical staff. Subject Skills: Students can read and interpret professional literature in the field of microbiology, immunology, epidemiology and hygiene applied in physiotherapy and rehabilitation, acquire practical habits of prevention of transmissible infections, working procedures in providing health care in terms of prevention of transmissible infections, master principles of personal hygiene and hand washing practices. Students can write a seminar essay on the topic in a given field.
