Course content
Lecture Topics: 1st consultation: History and basic philosophy of ergotherapy, theoretical background. The position of an occupational therapist in a rehabilitation team, comprehensive rehabilitation of people with disabilities. Basic models and approaches in occupational therapy, work with family and group. Analysis of individual activities used for ergotherapy, their use during the work with the client. Examination of the patient in terms of ergotherapy, used tests, ICF classification. Assessment and training of daily activities. 2nd consultation: Use of assistive techniques for self-service activities, for locomotives, for communication. Architectural barriers in the apartment and outside the apartment, rating the environment. Pre-work rehabilitation, ergodiagnostics. Application of ergotherapy for basic types of clients in health care and social services, in various types of facilities. Czech association of occupational therapists, program of activities, used terminology, international cooperation. Seminar Topics: 1st consultation: Work with ergotherapeutic documentation, formulation of treatment goals. Analysis of activities focused on the range of movements and muscle strength. Grip testing, grip aids. Assessment and training of self-sufficiency in individual types of disability. Basics of Bobath concept and other therapeutic methods. Self-study: Detailed study of basic models of ergotherapy, especially Canadian model of employment. Study of materials of the Czech Association of Occupational Therapists, web pages of international occupational therapy organizations.

Learning outcomes
The aim of the course is to acquaint students with ergotherapeutic expertise, its history, theoretical basics, overview of knowledge and skills that ergotherapist should manage and areas and institutions where ergotherapist can apply.
Expertise: The student demonstrates deep knowledge in theoretical basics of ergotherapy, common tests, including assessment of the environment, knowledge of specific problems in individual types of clients. They are familiar with used technical aids. Professional skills: Students can characterize the position of occupational therapist in health care and social services, the content of his work, the situation of people with disabilities in society. They are able to orientate in theoretical basics of ergotherapy, they have knowledge of common tests, including assessment of environment, knowledge of specific problems in individual types of clients. They are familiar with used technical aids. Competences: Students manage practical evaluation of self-sufficiency, basics of discussed therapeutic methods, selection of appropriate tool, assessment of environment and proposal for removal of barriers. They are capable of empathic attitude and adequate communication with the client depending on their health and life situation, obtaining information from the client and from the documentation
