Course content
Seminar Topics: 1. consultation: Introduction to the subject, basic terminology. Shock, division, prevention, first aid. Unconsciousness, acute and life-threatening states. Emergency resuscitation. Dressing material, bandages and techniques. 2. consultation: Non-bleeding injuries: principles, immobilization. Bleeding control, wound treatment. Fractures, immobilization, transport. Sport injuries: first aid. Sport injuries: prevention. Self-Study: First aid in emergency states: hypoglycemia, epilepsy, CVA, MI, asthma attack, collapse.

Learning outcomes
Students gain basic knowledge of first aid providing. In theoretical classes the emphasis will be put on acquiring the knowledge of states that can threaten a human life and especially on basic life function restoration. In practical seminars the students can train first aid provision in life-saving operations (CPR- Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation), carrying out anti-shock measures, controlling the bleeding, immobilizing a fracture, treating different types of wounds and positioning the injured.
Subject Knowledge: - The student can explain basic terms regarding first aid. - The student can describe the principles of first aid. Professional Skills: The student can carry out general check-up of an injured person on the accident spot - practical CPR performing (making sure that the breathing ways function, indirect cardiac massage) - practical performing of anti-shock measures regarding individual states - practical performing of different types of bleeding control - practical treatment performing of individual wounds and non-bleeding injuries - practical treatment performing of fractures, bones and joint injuries, sport accidents - assisting recovery and ensuring shock position.
