Lecture Topics: 1. Illness and its causes. Basic regressive changes. 2. Metabolism problems with ions and water. 3. Malfunction of carbohydrates, fats. 4. Inflammations. 5. Pathology of endocrine system. 6. Pathology of blood. 7. Pathology of respiratory system. 8. Pathology of peripheral nervous system. 9. Pathology of central nervous system 10. Pathology of locomotive system. Seminar Topics: 1. Pathology, its meaning and place in medicine. 2. Diabetes mellitus. 3. Metabolic faults. 4. Pathophysiological basis of inflammations. 5. The influence of hormones on bone tissue. Osteoporosis and osteomalacia. 6. Leukaemia, lymphomas. 7. Tuberculosis. 8. Multiple sclerosis, Alzheimer's disorder. Parkinson's disorder. 9. Osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis. Lupus erythematodes. 10. Revision.

Learning outcomes
After completing the course the student will have an overview of the causes of illnesses/disorders, regressive and metabolic changes, inflammations and tumorous disorders. Students will also gain some insight into the ways of processing the material designed for histologic examination, diagnostic methods used in routine practice and they will have better understanding of basic pathophysiological mechanisms.
Subject Knowledge: The student knows basic medical terminology and can define pathophysiology of certain illnesses. Professional Skills: The student can actively use the knowledge of pathology and apply pathology in practice, science and research.
