Lecture Topics: 1st consultation: Basic concepts (research / research, basic / applied research, qualitative / quantitative, experiment / investigation). Qualitative research - selected methods (case report, interview). Data acquisition (population / selection, identifiers and statistical quantities, questionnaires - item types, pilot investigations). Elementary data description (frequency issues including multiple responses, contingency table, mode, median, mean, standard deviation, box-plot). Quantitative research - analytical principle (scientific and statistical hypothesis, t-test, chi-square test, regression line model). Seminar Topics: 1st consultation: Working with e-catalog of UJEP library, with MEDVIK database and e-catalog of Krajské zdravotní, a.s. Working with databases Web of Science, SCOPUS, NursingOvid. Working with IHIS database. MS-Office Excel (Time Series Chart). MS-Office Excel (mode, median, average, standard deviation, frequency, pivot table). MS-Office Excel (TTEST, CHITEST, INTERCEPT, SLOPE commands). Self-study: The students will acquaint themselves with selected ethical aspects of research, namely with the issue of informed consent, copyright law and citation standards, through the use of study literature and using specialized literature. Furthermore, they will learn the principles of publishing (explanation of search terms, ISBN and ISSN, review process, impact factor). Students will see information videos about research conducted in laboratories at FZS.

The subject covers the issues of scientific work beginning with problem specification, research activities, choosing the adequate method and making a questionnaire to selected options of statistical description of gained information and publication principles. The goal of this subject is particularly to provide students with practical instructions for thesis creating including delivering some information about the possibility to take part in the research carried out at the faculty.
Expertise: Students know the principles of scientific work at all stages, from planning through implementation to publishing results, as well as related ethical and citation standards. Professional skills: Students are able to carry out research, to obtain and to process data using elementary statistical methods. Competences: Students understand the importance of scientific work for their field, are able to apply the principles of scientific work adequately in their field.
