Course content
PresentationTopics: 1. The basics of microbiology. 2. The basics of epidemiology. 3. The basics of immunology, active and passive immunization. 4. Nosocomial diseases and their prevention. 5. Hygiene requirements for buildings, professional equipment and medical facility operation: rehabilitation work place. 6. Disinfection and sterilization; disinfection, deratization. 7. Project WHO: Hospitals supporting and encouraging health.

Learning outcomes
The subject makes students familiar with basic issues in microbiology, epidemiology, hygiene, and relation between physical, chemical and biological factors of living environment and a human organism: population and effects on health. It familiarizes students with principles of how to prevent illnesses/disorders, protect and support health. The students applies general principles of hygiene and epidemiology to medical facilities as well as apply requirements for their building, operation and prevention of nosocomial diseases.
Subject Knowledge: Student knows basic professional terminology of microbiology, immunology, epidemiology and hygiene, he knows the functions and the parts of the immune system, the nature and forms of immunization, he understands ethiology, epidemiology and prevention of nosocomial diseases. He understands hygiene requirements for the building and medical facility operation with the focus on rehabilitation work place, principles of disinfection and sterilization, principles of personal hygiene of the medical staff. Professional Skills: Student is able to read and explain professional literature regarding the subject of microbiology, immunology, epidemiology and hospital hygiene applied to physiotherapy and rehabilitation. Student knows practical habits regarding prevention of nosocomial diseases, work procedures when giving medical care from the point of view of prevention of nosocomial diseases and manages principles of personal hygiene as well as the procedure of washing hands. He can make a seminar work in a given field of study.
