Course content
Lecture Topics: 1. consultation: General goals of occupational therapy for neurological patients, expected return of lost functions. Occupational therapy for cerebrovascular accident as a model of central paralysis, adjustment of hand function. Occupational therapy for an injury and brain tumours, multiple sclerosis; goal setting regarding the age. Occupational therapy for disorders of extrapyramidal system and chronic infections. 2. consultation: Occupational therapy for children with CP and other children's diagnosis. Occupational therapy after the damage of spinal cord, for peripheral paralysis, especially of upper limb, consequences of poliomyelitis. Vertebrogenic syndromes. Occupational therapy procedure for cognitive disorders, speech impediment, intellectual abilities. Seminar topics: 1st consultation: Ergonotherapy at the CMP, familiarization with elements of facilitation methods, restitution and substitution of the hand function. Ergotherapy for brain injury, RS, cognitive training, pre-assessment. 2nd consultation: Ergonotherapy in spinal lesions - hand function at tetraplegics, movement on the trolley and movements, sport. Ergotherapy at DMO and other children's patients, gambling practice, self-sufficiency, school continuity. Ergotherapy in peripheral parasites at HK, utilization of the palate. Self-Study: Study focused on rehabilitation of cognitive disorders and rehabilitation of speech by aphasia. Gaining the information and knowledge about the program offered by non-profit society which deal with long-term rehabilitation of neurological patients.

Learning outcomes
The subject is structured as theoretically-practical. It follows the lectures of clinical neurology. Students gain theoretical and practical knowledge which they can use in the field of occupational therapy for the clients with neurological diagnosis in post acute and also in chronical period. The emphasis is put on independence training, therapy of a hand and pre-work rehabilitation.
Subject Knowledge: Student gains necessary knowledge and skills in diagnostic and therapeutic area for the clients with neurological diagnosis. Professional Skills: Students are familiar with neurological area and they use this knowledge when choosing occupational therapy procedure.
