Course content
Lecture Topics: 1. General goals of occupational therapy for neurological patients, expected return of lost functions. 2. Occupational therapy for a cerebrovascular accident as a model of central paralysis, hand function adjustment. 3. Occupational therapy for an injury and brain tumours, multiple sclerosis, goal setting regarding the age. 4. Occupational therapy for disorders of extrapyramidal system and chronical infections. 5. Occupational therapy for children with CP and other diagnosis of child age. 6. Occupational therapy after the damage of spinal cord. 7. Occupational therapy for peripheral paralysis, especially of upper arm. Consequences of poliomyelitis. 8. Vertebrogenic syndromes. 9. Occupational therapy procedure of cognitive disorders, speech impediment, intellectual abilities. 10. Revision Seminar Topics: 1. Occupational therapy for cerebrovascular accident . 2. Introdiction of the elements of facilitative methods, restoration and substitution of hand function. 3. Occupational therapy for brain injury . 4. Occupational therapy for multiple sclerosis. 5. Training of cognitive functions, prework assessment. 6. Occupational therapy for spinal lesion. 7. Hand functions for tetraplegics, mobility by using a wheel chair, sport possibilities. 8. Occupational therapy for CP and other child patients, game training, training of independence, continuity after school. 9. Occupational therapy for peripheral paralysis of upper arm, splints application.

Learning outcomes
The subject is structured as theoretically-practical. It follows the lectures of clinical neurology. Student gains theoretical and practical findings which he can use in the field of occupational therapy for clients with neurological diagnosis in a post acute and also in chronical period. The emphasis is put on independence training, the therapy for a hand and pre-work rehabilitation.
Subject Knowledge: Student has an overview of the disorders of functions covered by neurological diagnosis, the possibilities of modifications. Professional Skills: Student is able to cooperate with a patient, assess his condition and suggest a therapeutic procedure.

Assessment methods and criteria

at least 80% active seminar attendance, managing basics regarding neurological examination, training how to help a patient in a wheelchair or with heavy hemi paresis.
