Lecture Topics: 1. Introduction to the subject: the application of occupational therapy in the area of geriatrics. 2. Cooperation between certain medical and social professions. 3. Occupational therapy in seniors' houses: the work of an occupational therapist within functional therapy. 4. Occupational therapy in gerontopsychiatry: influencing the process of the disease. 5. The issues of cerebrovascular insult: causes, treatment goals, therapeutic methods. 6. The issues of cerebrovascular insult: causes, treastment goals, therapeutic methods. 7. Problems regarding Parkinson's disorder: treatment goals, therapeutic methods, means. 8. Problems regarding Parkinson's disorder: treatment goals, therapeutic methods, means. 9. Problems regarding elderly depression, organically evoked psychosis among the elderly; Alzheimer's disorder: treatment goals, therapeutic methods. 10. Learning outcomes
|
The subject is structured as theoretically-practical. The student can suggest a therapy plan based on a complete health condition of the elderly. The emphasis is put on sustaining of corresponding functional abilities and prolonging patient's independence as well as active life style. The student can put gained theoretical knowledge in practice in the area of geriatrics.
Subject Knowledge: The student gains knowledge about aging process, consequences regarding the disorder, worsening of the independence and of social aspects corresponding the whole functional patient's state. The student gains knowledge about how an occupational therapist can help the senior to sustain corresponding functional abilities and prolong patient's independence as well as active life style. The student will understand the role of an occupational therapist in various socio-medical and municipal services for the elderly. Professional Skills: Based on diagnostics the student can create and realize an occupational therapy plan in a given area. He can apply suitable therapeutic activities and methods to keep corresponding functional abilities and the level of independence of a senior person.
