Course content
Lecture Topics: 1. consultation: Surgery: general part, inflammations, tumours, shock, emergency resuscitation. Surgery: special part - cardiac surgery, chest surgery, breast tumours. 2. consultation: Abdomen surgery, urogenital system, surgery of arteries and veins. Traumatology: wounds, burns, skull, brain, chest and abdomen injury. 3. consultation: Fractures: basic types, most common fractures according to location of conservative therapy, operative therapy. Complications with healing of fractures, pelvis, upper limb and lower limbs. Seminar Topics: 2. consultation: Work placement at traumatology department, traumatology department, operating theatre, ICU. 3. consultation: Work placement at traumatology department, traumatology department, operating theatre, ICU. Self-Study: Healing process in soft bone structures. Sport traumatology. Traumatology issues in a child age.

Learning outcomes
Brief subject history. The knowledge of basic diagnostic and treatment processes in surgery based on individual areas and applications including the most modern trends in rehabilitation and physiotherapy. The complex overview of diagnostics and subsequent conservative as well as operative treatment of locomotive apparatus with the emphasis on prevention and the most modern surgical trends application in traumatology with relation to the subsequent physiotherapy.
Subject Knowledge: Within the scope of general surgery students can explain principles of treating surgical inflammations and they know basic groups of tumours and shocks. They can describe individual steps of emergency resuscitation and are able to demonstrate it practically. They can name and concisely describe basic deseases and principles of surgeries in the head area, chest and abdomen according to individual areas. They can describe the types of burns and principles how to treat them. Professional Skills: Students know the groups of injuries of locomotive apparatus according to the types of affected tissues and fractures in individual locations and can describe diagnostic and treatment methods in traumatology with the emphasis on the subsequent rehabilitation. The level of knowledge will be checked by regular tests.

Active class attendance, possibility of work placement at a surgical or traumatological outpatient department, an operation theatre, self-study of recommended literature and study aids, a written test with 70% passing level, oral exam.
