Course content
## Lecture Topics: 1. Fundamentals of healthcare management: key principles of managing healthcare organisations. Managerial functions in healthcare: planning, organising, leading, and controlling. Organisational culture and its importance for the quality of care. 2. Legislative framework of healthcare: laws and regulations governing the provision of healthcare services. Legal responsibilities of providers and patients. Quality standards in healthcare and their implementation. 3. Organisational structure of healthcare facilities: types of healthcare providers (outpatient, inpatient, specialised care). Management hierarchy in hospitals and other healthcare institutions. 4. Capacity planning processes and resource management. 5. Human resource management in healthcare: recruitment, motivation, and education of healthcare staff. Conflict resolution and teamwork. Prevention of burnout among healthcare professionals. 6. Financial management in healthcare: sources of healthcare funding (public, private, and insurance systems). Budgeting, cost monitoring, and efficient financial management. Economic evaluation of healthcare services. 7. Quality management in healthcare: tools for monitoring and improving care quality. Accreditation and certification systems for healthcare facilities. Use of patient feedback. 8. Crisis management and sustainability of healthcare: managing crises in healthcare (pandemics, natural disasters, staff shortages). Strategic planning for the sustainability of healthcare services. 9. Preparing healthcare facilities for future challenges. 10. Ethical and cultural aspects of healthcare management: ethical dilemmas in healthcare management. Learning outcomes
The course *Organisation and Management of Healthcare Providers* is focused on a comprehensive understanding of both theoretical and practical aspects of the organisation and management of healthcare facilities in the context of current healthcare challenges. Students are introduced to key principles of healthcare management, the legislative framework, and quality standards of care. Emphasis is placed on the efficient management of human and financial resources, capacity planning in healthcare facilities, and the implementation of innovative approaches to improve the quality and accessibility of care. The course also covers crisis management in emergency situations, strategic planning for long-term sustainability, and the handling of ethical dilemmas related to the provision of healthcare. Students develop skills in teamwork and communication with patients, their families, and other stakeholders, with an emphasis on an interdisciplinary approach and respect for cultural and social diversity. The course prepares students for responsible and effective management of healthcare facilities in the dynamic environment of modern healthcare systems.
After completing the course, the student will be able to: 1. Understand the basic principles of organisation and management of healthcare facilities, including their legislative framework and quality standards. 2. Demonstrate knowledge of effective human resource management in healthcare, including recruitment, leadership, and motivation of healthcare staff. 3. Plan and manage financial resources of healthcare facilities and optimise costs while maintaining the quality of care. 4. Apply tools and methods for healthcare quality management, including performance monitoring and facility accreditation. 5. Develop skills in crisis management, including planning and implementing measures to handle emergency situations. 6. Analyse organisational processes and propose measures to improve the efficiency and sustainability of healthcare operations. 7. Communicate effectively with healthcare staff, patients, and other stakeholders, with an emphasis on ethics and respect for cultural differences. 8. Apply strategic and innovative approaches to the development of healthcare facilities and adapt to the challenges of modern healthcare.

Assessment methods and criteria

Preparation of a qualitative study. The qualitative study will include semi-structured interviews with the management of a selected healthcare provider. The student will develop key thematic areas for the interview reflecting one main topic of this course. Based on the interviews, transcripts will be produced, followed by analysis (open, axial, and selective coding) and interpretation of the results.
