Course content
Lecture Topics: 1. Fundamentals of management in social services: principles and functions of management in residential care facilities. The manager?s role in institutional care: competencies, responsibilities, and ethics. 2. Legislative framework and quality standards: laws and regulations governing social services (e.g., Act No. 108/2006 Coll.). Quality standards in social services and their implementation in practice. Legal aspects of relationships between clients, providers, and families. 3. Organisational structure of social care facilities: types of facilities and their specifics (nursing homes, special regime homes, hospices). Capacity planning, ensuring human and material resources. 4. Optimisation of operations and ensuring continuity of care. 5. Human resource management in social services: recruitment, training, and staff motivation. Team management and conflict resolution. Prevention of burnout and staff support. 6. Planning and financial management: budgeting and financial planning. Funding sources for institutional care: public, private, and grant-based options. Cost monitoring and efficient financial management. 7. Client-centred approach and communication: individual care planning and client participation. 8. Effective communication with clients, families, and stakeholders: working with diverse needs and care approaches for people with dementia or other specific conditions. 9. Crisis management and sustainability: risk and crisis management (pandemics, staff shortages, legislative changes). Sustainability and innovation in social care facility management. Preparing for future challenges related to population ageing. 10. Ethical and cultural aspects in social care: ethical dilemmas in managing social care facilities. Respecting cultural and religious diversity of clients.

Learning outcomes
The course *Organisation and Management of Social Care Providers* is focused on a comprehensive understanding of both theoretical and practical aspects of managing and organising facilities providing residential social care, particularly in services aimed at older adults. Students gain an overview of key management principles in social services, the legislative framework, and quality standards of care. Emphasis is placed on the efficient management of human and financial resources, planning and delivering care that meets clients? needs, crisis management, and the long-term sustainability of service provision. The course also develops skills in communication, teamwork, ethical decision-making, and adapting care to the cultural and individual needs of clients.
After completing the course, the student will be able to: 1. Understand the key principles of managing residential social care facilities, including organisational, legislative, and ethical aspects. 2. Acquire knowledge of care planning and delivery, including the implementation of quality standards and adaptation of care to clients? specific needs. 3. Develop skills in human resource management, such as recruitment, leadership and staff support, prevention of burnout, and effective team communication. 4. Learn to plan and manage financial resources, prepare budgets, and allocate resources efficiently to ensure the sustainable operation of the facility. 5. Gain competence in crisis management and strategic planning to respond to unexpected situations and ensure continuity of care. 6. Be able to analyse and propose measures to improve facility operations, including innovative approaches and adaptation to future challenges. 7. Communicate effectively with clients, families, and other stakeholders, with an emphasis on individualised care and respect for cultural differences.

Assessment methods and criteria

The preparation of a qualitative study. The qualitative study will include semi-structured interviews with the management of teaching or partner nursing homes in the Ústí Region. The student will develop key thematic areas for the interview reflecting one main topic of this course. Based on the interviews, transcripts will be produced, followed by analysis (open, axial, and selective coding) and interpretation of the results.
