Course content
1. Defining culture as so-called high art; identifying selected creative human activities categorized under the definition of culture. 2. Interdisciplinary studies of culture: culturology and anthropology; defining the frameworks of culturology and anthropology (culture and subculture, cultural identity, ethnicity and multiculturalism, media and cultures, communication and culture). 3. Origins of the theory of creative industries (Frankfurt School, French sociologists, etc.); formation of the entertainment industry, critical responses to the influence of mass culture on society; creative industries and their impact on society. 4. Traditional art sectors (visual arts, performing arts, cultural heritage) vs. cultural industries (film and video, television and radio, video games, music, books, and print); cultural planning and utilization of cultural resources in the North Bohemia region. 5. Potential of cultural industries in the region. 6. Historical development of creative industries, defining creative industries ? the creative industries sector (design, architecture, and advertising) and related fields (manufacturers of PCs, players, etc.); defining frameworks of cultural and creative industries (differences from traditional arts). 7. Unofficial culture, interactions between high and low culture; how unofficial culture influences official culture and cultural policy. 8. Performing arts as a center and source of creativity and innovation for related CCI sectors; proposing strategies to overcome cultural barriers, increase accessibility, and promote inclusivity in the performing arts. 9. Development of design and increasing competitiveness through innovation; challenges associated with the use of artificial intelligence in design. 10. Print media and digitalization; developmental trends and technologies influencing the current book market; brainstorming proposals for integrating innovations into educational materials and textbooks. 11. Film production and the film industry; the activities of film institutions; film piracy. 12. Video games as authentic works of art; specific forms of business models, production processes, and legal relationships in the video game industry.

Learning outcomes
Introduction to the History of Cultural and Creative Industries (CCI) introduces students to fundamental concepts such as culture in the context of the so-called high arts, culturology, anthropology, cultural industries, and creative industries. The course focuses on understanding the historical development of cultural industries, exploring the relationship between industry and culture as contrasting forces. It further reflects on the subsequent historical progression with an emphasis on the diverse range of cultural sectors. The course also addresses the definition and framing of creative industries. The second part of the course examines the development of CCI in the era of globalization and digitalization, exploring the challenges, transformations, and related ethical questions.
The acquired competencies represent the mastery and application of knowledge in the given field, based on the specific course description and aimed at fulfilling the graduate profile.
