Course content

1. Methods of analysis of a work of art I (formal analysis, style analysis). 2. Methods of analysis of a work of art II (semiotic analysis). 3. Artistic research I (introduction to the method). 4. Artistic research II (case studies from contemporary art). 5. Analysis of contemporary work in the field of visual arts (traditional media). 6. Analysis of a contemporary work in the field of visual arts (moving image in the gallery). 7. Analysis of contemporary work by the method of artistic research. 8. Other forms of analysis than text (video essay). 9. Autotheory, how to analyze one's own work. 10. A theoretical book as a system of perspectives. 11-12 Presentation of seminar papers.

Learning outcomes
|
The course is focused on the analysis of specific works from the field of contemporary art with an emphasis on installation art and moving image art. Works that meet the possible results of artistic research are chosen for the interpretations. The latter is perceived here as a method adequate to more exact research methods, with the difference that emphasis is placed on the aesthetic strategies used and work with the topic as the artist thinks about the reality under investigation. Students will get to know various approaches to the analysis of a work of art. Analyzes of specific works will be carried out with respect to local and international institutional and artistic operations. The course includes visits to individual and group exhibitions.
The gained capabilities constitute an encompassment and an aquirement of knowledge and experience in the subject and are aimed at a profile´s fulfilment of the graduate of the given field of study.
