Course content
An overview of the development of Czech and world fine art in the second half of the 20th century up to current trends in visual arts. The subject helps to prepare for the state exam questions related to the development of visual arts since 1945. At the same time, the main curatorial approaches in the given period and their influence on the development of art are reflected. 1. Second modern art, post-war development in the late 1940s and 1950s. Abstract art in the dominant Euro- American environment. The influence of existentialism on art. The transfer of the art center from Europe to the USA - from Paris to New York. 2. American abstraction ? abstract expressionism, color field painting. European abstract painting ? informel, tachism, Art Brut, CoBrA group. 3. Division into western and eastern blocks. Post-war development in Czech art ? surrealism and the official ideological program with socialist realism within the Eastern bloc. 4. Late second modern art of the late 50s and 60s of the 20th century. Continuing the development of Abstract Expressionism, fascination with writing, poetry and politics. Art in Europe - Lettrism and the Italian Situationist International. 5. American painting abstraction, theorist Clement Greenberg, beat generation and the influence of Black Mountain College for the further development of art. Op-art. 6. Interest in everyday objects, figure and action in the art of the 1960s. Criticism of society, art as process and emphasis to physicality. 7. Development in the USA ? neo-Dadaism, American pop art, funk art and action art. Happening, environment and performance. International group Fluxus. 8. European development - British pop art - London group Independent Group, French new realism, Italian Arte superstition and Viennese actionism. 9. Art of the second half of the 1960s and 1970s. Minimization of form ? minimalism, targeting thought and text ? conceptualism, body - body art, landscape and ecology - land art and a given place - site-specific art and public art. 10-12 Professional excursions.

Learning outcomes
An overview of the development of Czech and world fine art in the second half of the 20th century up to current trends in visual arts. The subject helps to prepare for the state exam questions related to the development of visual arts since 1945. At the same time, the main curatorial approaches in the given period and their influence on the development of art are reflected.
The gained capabilities constitute an encompassment and an aquirement of knowledge and experience in the subject and are aimed at a profile´s fulfilment of the graduate of the given field of study.
