Course content
1. Resources of contemporary design: Radical design, Memphis, Alchimia. 2. Resources of contemporary design: Studio furniture, Art et Industrie, Creative Salvage, and new German design. The Droog Group and the revolution of conceptual design in the 1990s, and the emergence of so-called Art Design. 3. New organic design: Marc Newson, Zaha Hadid, Ross Lovegrove. 4. Back to minimalism: Naoto Fukasawa, Jasper Morrison, Super Normal, Apple. 5. Top design at the turn of the millennium: Konstantin Grcic, Ronan a Erwan Bouroullec, James Irvine, and many others 6. Design and marketing: new brands and strategies. 7. Main representatives of the upcoming generation of designers: Sabine Marcelis, Max Lamb, Tomas Alonso, Michael Anastassiades, BIG-GAME, and many others. 8. Design and action: performative and research approaches in contemporary design: Studio Swine, Formafantasma, Forensinc Architecture, Judith Seng, Studio Glithero. The most current tendencies in contemporary design: Neo-postmoderna, Ugly Design. 9. Renaissance of curatorship and journalism about design: exhibitions, biennials, fairs, independent magazines, Instagram. 10. Czech design of the eighties and nineties. 11. Czech Design after 2000

Learning outcomes
The cycle of lectures will focus on development of applied art and/or design from 1980 to the present. Students will get acquainted with the basic development tendencies of the 20th century, which fundamentally influenced contemporary design, and at the same time, they will get to know many different facets of contemporary world and domestic creation.
The gained capabilities constitute an encompassment and an aquirement of knowledge and experience in the given field of study, they result from a concrete annotation of the subject and are aimed at a profile´s fulfilment of the graduate of the given field of study.
