Course content
1. Internal materials structure, atomic and molecular bonds, internal power, enthalpy. Crystal lattice, plains and directions marking, defects of crystal lattice. 2. Examination methods of microstructure and macrostructure. Phases and their transformation, phase rule. Iron-carbon diagrams. 3. Metal properties and their testing. Mechanical p., technological p., impact test, fatigue test, non-destructive test. 4. Technical ferrous alloy. Iron-carbon alloy, diagrams of alloy, structure components, conditions influences, influence of other elements. Classification of ferrous alloy. 5. Pig iron production, next processing of pig iron-steel and cast iron production. 6. Austenitic transformations. Pearlitic, ferrite, martensitic and bainite transformation. Diffusion in metals. Transformation diagrams (IDA, ADA). Transformations at tempering. 7. Metal head - treatment. Treatment with and without recrystallization. Chemically - thermal and mechanically - thermal treatment. Ways, methods, medium, meaning. 8. Recovery and recrystallization. Metal creep. Brittle and tough fracture, fracture mechanisms and classification. 9. Constructional steels, steels of mass consumption, welding steels, high-tensile steels. Control of steel properties, influence of processing to steel quality. 10. Electrochemical and chemical corrosion of metals. Corrosion prevention. Heat-resisting s., creep-resisting s. and corrosion-resisting steels. 11. Tool steels. Cast iron, classification, processing, meaning. Control of cast iron properties, heat-treatment of cast iron. 12. Non-ferrous metals and alloys. Alloys of cooper, aluminium, nickel, titanium and magnesium. Properties and their control, metals use. 13. New materials. Sintered metals, composite materials, managing, honeycombed materials and next new materials (metal glass, superconductors, polymer concrete etc.). Control of material properties. Principles and methodology of material sample.
