1) Introduction to analytical procedures and methods used in the field of materials engineering, with a focus on the specific search for the causes of material defects in components from industrial practice. 2) Case studies of specific malfunctions and defects, detection of mechanisms of damage, its causes and possible prevention of the occurrence of these defects. 3) Case studies of experimental development of materials, aimed at achieving certain final characteristics. 4) Presentation of techniques available in the faculty's laboratories for possible groups of suitable industrial products, subsequently performed analyses, or presentation of the topics of diploma theses. 5) Summary of obtained results, preparation of presentations from individual solved projects (teamwork), additional analyzes and final presentation of achieved results (synthesis of partial results of individual tests and observations).

The aim of the course is to present so-called case studies, based on research and application practice in the field of materials engineering, and thus enable students to prepare for a longer term for experimental work on materials and topics of their graduate theses. Specific procedures, presented in an interactive discussion format, will subsequently enable them to proceed in a similar way in the faculty's laboratories, both when working on topics related to projects, solved at the Institute of Technologies and Materials FSI, and with a view to using the knowledge in the preparation of their diploma theses.
Students will master the connection of basic principles, taught in material subjects, with their partial manifestations, or applications in real technical practice. During the analyses, they get the opportunity to continuously consult the obtained results so that they are able to reach conclusions gradually, in terms of the suitability of the material used for specific applications, as well as in terms of the suitability of the given engineering technology, surface treatments, heat treatment, the presence of defects, etc.
