Course content
1. Content and importance of metrology, division and content of metrology, history of metrology, international cooperation and institutions in metrology. 2. Legal metrology, Act No. 505/1990 Coll. on metrology, decrees of the Ministry of Industry and Trade. 3. Overview of the state of metrology, type approval of the meter, verification, calibration. Arranging and ensuring primary standardization in the Czech Republic. 4. Standards. 5. Mutual relations of metrology, technical standardization and testing, accreditation and authorization. 6. Business metrology and tasks of business metrology. Categorization of measuring instruments in terms of industrial metrology, calibration and traceability of measuring instruments. 7. Metrological rules of the company and metrological confirmation. 8. Calibration in the company - internal and external calibration. Determination of recalibration intervals, determination of calibration validity period, methods. 9. Measurement methods, measurement errors and uncertainties. 10. Control of measurement processes. 11. Use of basic quality management tools in metrology. 12. Metrological requirements of the standard ČSN EN ISO 9000: 2001 and measurement management systems according to ČSN EN ISO 10012: 2003. 13. Metrological security in the field of EMS.

Learning outcomes
Metrology is a scientific and technical discipline that deals with all knowledge and activities in the field of measurement. Within the subject Metrology and Measurement, students will get acquainted with the essence of metrology in the past and present. The basis for the course is the Act on Metrology No. 505/1990 Coll. as amended (Czech Republic). Students will get acquainted with the content of the law and its application in practice. The course also includes areas of metrology and compliance with current legal standards of the Czech Republic and the EU, metrological regulations for companies and organizations. Furthermore, students are acquainted with instruments, equipment and units of measurement (basic, derived, their multiples and definitions of units), the nature and necessity of calibration and verification of meters, equipment and instruments. The course also includes the basics of calculating measurement errors and measurement uncertainty in mechanical engineering.
