Learning outcomes
The course summarizes the basic knowledge in the field of general, inorganic and organic chemistry. The aim is to gain an overview of the content of technical terms and the interrelationships of phenomena and properties of elements. Students are acquainted with chemical calculations and basic characteristics of elements and selected compounds.
Orientation in the chemical structure of materials Knowledge of the construction of chemical elements Knowledge of the properties of the basic elements with applications in engineering practice
Prerequisites
1. Structure of solids, bond between atoms, basics of crystallography, disorders of crystal structure, diffusion. 2. Properties of metals and alloys - distribution (physical, chemical, technological and mechanical properties). 3. Crystallization of metals and their alloys, phases and thermodynamic equilibrium, general features of crystallization, lever rule, phase rule, polymorphic metals. 4. Equilibrium binary diagrams - system with unlimited solid state solubility, limited solid state solubility, with eutectic, peritectic, eutectoid reaction, decomposition of supersaturated solid solution, 5. Elements in steels and cast irons, the influence of accompanying and alloying elements on the properties of steels and cast irons. 6. Metastable system Fe-Fe3C - structural, phase description, basic structures of steels. 7. Austenitization, decomposition of austenite - pearlitic, bainitic, martensitic transformation, IRA, ARA diagrams. 8. Heat treatment of steels: annealing - without recrystallization, with recrystallization, hardening, tempering, thermomechanical treatment. 9. Chemical-thermal treatment: cementing, nitriding and other methods. Thermomechanical processing of steels. 10. Stable Fe-C system - division, inoculation and modification of cast irons, heat treatment. 11. Mechanical properties and their testing - division. Destructive tests - static tensile test, hardness tests, impact test in bending, fatigue tests. Non-destructive tests - visual, magnetic, capillary, ultrasound, radiation tests. 12. Marking of steels and cast irons according to valid standards.
