1. Historical introduction to materials engineering in terms of materials application 2. Marking of steels and cast irons according to ČSN, EN, AISI 3. Structural steels for common applications; structural steels for special applications in the energy industry 4. High-alloy steels and their industrial applications 5. Tool steels 6. High-strength steels - development, properties, applications 7. Steels applied in transport and handling technology 8. Cast irons - production, distribution, application in practice 9. Modern types of cast irons, their production, applications 10. Sintered carbides - distribution, production, properties 11. Steels for special applications - nuclear reactors, low temperatures, medicine 12. Non-ferrous metals - properties, use, specifics 13. Use of non-ferrous metals in composite materials

Learning outcomes
The main goal of the course is to acquaint students with the basic types of metallic materials that are used for structural elements in engineering, energy and construction. Knowledge in the field of steels and cast irons is gained. At the same time, modern technologies of their processing are presented, from metallurgical production, heat treatment, special forming to special surface treatment.
