The aim of the course is to acquaint students with the basic methods of study and characterization of the internal structure of materials, basic knowledge about the properties and testing of materials. The course will also pay attention to the development and distribution of materials - steel and cast iron, non-ferrous metals, but also new types of metal materials with special properties. The course emphasizes the methods of structural analysis, microscopic and macroscopic methods, as well as the most used methods for determining the chemical composition, selected methods of mechanical testing of materials. The course will also study methods such as quantitative metallography, X-ray diffraction analysis or methods of testing the corrosion resistance of materials. Last but not least, students will be introduced to an important area of ??tribology, ie the wear resistance of materials, defectoscopic test methods used in the methods of studying metallic materials.
