The course is focused on the interpretation of the causes of failure of technical objects, introduces the micromechanisms of failure, methods of macro and microfractographic study. Classifies and describes the mechanisms of fractures in order to acquaint students with the possibilities of using fractography in solving practical production problems, accidents and their causes, reverse engineering and optimization of material selection, etc. The course summarizes the basic methodological procedures of fractographic analysis . Course contents: 1. Historical development of fractography. Importance and benefits of fractographic analysis. 2. Systematization of fractographic concepts, classification of quarries, conditions, micromechanisms of failure of technical objects. Causes and consequences of quarries. 3. Methods of fractographic analysis: macroscopic, microscopic, quantitative, qualitative. 4. Fractography technique: principles, choice of the right procedure. 5. Fractures: brittle, tough, mixed, transcrystalline, intercrystalline. 6. Fatigue fractures, creep fracture, stress corrosion. 7. Application of fractography in Fe alloys, Al alloys, in power engineering. 8. Special examples of quarries. 9. Methodology for solving the causes of operational quarries - specific examples, analysis of the methodology.
