Learning outcomes
The course Polymeric Materials deals with the systematics of polymers from the synthesis of polymers, methods of their production to the processing and use of polymers. The main attention is paid to polymerization reactions, their mechanism and the principle of macromolecule formation. Course contents: 1. Basic division of polymers and their consumption 2. Methods of polymer synthesis (polymerization reaction, polycondensation, polyaddition) 3. Basic methods of polymer production 4. Phase states of polymeric materials 5. Molecular weight and its determination 6. Configuration of macromolecules 7. Basic synthetic polymers (thermoplastics, thermosets, synthetic rubbers) 8. Additives for polymers 9. Chemical resistance, corrosion of polymers.

Prerequisites
Students demonstrate knowledge of non-metallic materials, their basic manufacturing processes, materials composition and use of technology. These students can apply the knowledge in research and as part of their undergraduate theses and subsequently doctoral thesis.
